Currently Listening
A Little Bit Longer
By Jonas Brothers

Jonas Brothers! :)

So, I usually don't post on Xanga.. mostly because I don't have anything I want to say. Or I think of something to say, and then never write it. That's sad, really, because you all missed out on some exceptional reading material.  Or maybe not. :)

Anyways, I have a story and a mini-rant aimed at no one in particular.

Today, Chris bought me the new Jonas Brothers' CD.  Whoo hoo! I heart the Jonas Brothers! They're fun! While showing my cool present to Chris Chan, he said the he didn't like them, cuz he didn't think they were that good when they were on So You Think You Can Dance. And that's all.  Which makes this seem like a very boring story, which it is I guess.  But I really appreciated that Chris Chan's reaction because he told me his opinion (that he didn't like the Jonas Brothers) and a logical reason (he thought their performance was lacking on SYTYCD) AND did not in any way speak condescendingly to me.

I really don't when people (nebulous, hypothetical people) tell me that something I like is dumb (or that I am dumb for liking something) just because they themselves don't like it. Usually sounding something like, "Seriously?!" accompanied by a laugh that means, "Oh silly Sabrina, why are you so young and uncool? I shake my head at your youth and lack of coolness." Because apparently I can only like things that you think are old and cool? Really?

I like to, then, either ignore the person and move on, or ignore the person, laugh awkwardly, and think in my head, "Why is that dumb? Why don't you ask me why I like (blank)?  Or perhaps I should question as to why you don't like (blank)?"  I feel that much of the time people's dislike of whatever uncool thing is based on the percieved coolness of something rather than any qualities the thing might have. Take the Jonas Brothers for example.  If you rolled your eyes and chuckled when you read the title of this post, why did you? Because you actually don't like them due to a logical reason?  Or because they're a Disney Channel-born boy band that hoards of screaming little girls like?  Maybe because you think I'm too old to listen to them? Even if you do think those things, do we have to like all the same things? (Please say "no" :))

In short, don't shoot down someones likes or dislikes based on your own preferences. If you disagree, do it politely and with a reason. Don't be so prideful that you automatically think your preferences are superior to others. These guidelines would probably be applicable in a range of deeper issues, like theology or politics.  However, I'm not deep enough to apply them in those areas. :)  And, yes, I probably do this sometimes too, if I do, call me out (in love, of course), and I will sincerely and thoroughly apologize.

And, thank you Chris Chan for being respectful. I appreciate it.

ha!

http://www.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/asiapcf/04/07/japan.geishas/index.html?eref=rss_topstories

It's like Rain in "Sang Do"!!!  (which I still maintain is LAME.... despite the Rain and the cute little sick girl.)

I guess it's not that weird. Like escort services and stuff. Perhaps less shady if all they give is complements and attention. *shrug*

I LOVE VACATION!

Or alternately, I LOVE READING!

Hahah.. today was my first official day of spring break... I had a nice morning with Chris, did some wedding stuff. (two things down, a bajillion more to go! whoo hoo!) Cleaned up a little bit.

And then spent the rest of the day with Starbucks and Bookstar. It was wonderful.:) Except that I missed Christine... I even almost drove to her old house so we could walk to Bookstar together like we used to... *sigh*

But on to the books.
I finished "The Sweet Far Thing" by Libba Bray. Pretty much what I expected. Kind of crazy towrds the end. It was alright, but one of those books/series I finish just to find out what happens with the boy.  (Because, there's ALWAYS a boy) And Kartik was a good boy.

And THEN! I read Goose Girl by Shannon Hale on Stella's recomendation. SO GOOD! It was a lovely interpretation. And a GREAT boy. I like books that aren't about a boy and girl, but kind of just have a boy sprinkled in every once in a while for effect. I'm gonna go back and buy it. Thanks Stella!

I love reading. I love it when I read a really good book that has me thinking about the story the rest of the day... like what happens after the end? Or what happens to this other character? Reading a good story is different than reading, like... Sophie Kinsella-Shopaholic-fluff (even though that is entertaining at times).  Good books make me want to write. Good day. :)

unexpected....

So...

yesterday was fun. :)

:) :) :) :) :)

So I was kind of expecting it soon, but I wasn't sure when. On Saturday, we had been planning to go out to dinner for our 2 year anniversary. It crossed my mind that it could be "the day", but we spent it pretty normally, so I didn't think too much about it. We had dinner at our favorite steak place (Ruth's Chris... awesome plates or sizzling butter... *drool*) and ate awesome food.

After dinner, Chris said he wanted Starbucks cuz he still had a paper to work on. Also normal for us. :) When we got home, he tried to get me to go upstairs "to get dental floss". but I didn't understand why he just wouldn't get it himself. I went upstairs and was starting to settle in for a stay-at-home night. You know, hanging up my jacket, straightening up my room, etc. I was about to change into pj's, when Chris called from downstairs, "What are you doing?! Come down here!" And I was like... "what?! Come use the dental floss up here!" But he insisted, so I came downstairs all confused...

Then he told me that his Starbucks coffee cup was weird and that I should read it. Still not catching on, I read it. The beginning started out normally. "This is the season of cheer..." and then I skipped down and saw a verse reference, and was like... what? Then looking down further, I saw my name. At this point, I was so confused, the first thing I said was "How did you do that?!" Hhow on earth could he get a personalized Starbucks cup?! Cuz I saw him order it! I don't understand!!!

But then he got down on one knee and proposed. :)

And I said yes... and then, "I thought you wanted dental floss! I was going to change into pj's!!!"

Then he rushed me off to an engagement party with all my family and his family and our friends. EVERYONE already knew and lied to me! And I had no idea!

And that's the end of the story! I'm getting married! :) I dunno when though... but I'm getting married! :)

Chris was pretty slick. I was so suprised. He had it all arranged for months! And everyone was in on it! And the Starbucks cup is pretty authentic looking. He got some friends of his who have a printing business to copy the design and edit it on one big sticker and stuck it over a real cup. And my brother set it up with the Starbucks people so they would recognize us and give us the correct cup. Slick, I tell you! I was blown away.

I feel very foolish for being anxious about not getting engaged yet. Even more foolish because the people who I told about feeling anxious ALL KNEW it was happening already! So I should not have been anxious. God definitely had a sovereign plan. And Chris ' plan was pretty good too. :)

So yeah. It was a good weekend. :)

One more (less materialistic) picture...

thanks, Leon!

Thanks for reading! (If you read the whole thing... :))

roommates = love.

Quote of the Night:
"Nice. Just the way I like them. Dead... and in pieces." - Janice

Care to venture a guess what's she's talking about?

And I like how Annie takes possession of us. "MY roommates, MY."

again... roommates = love.
